About This Project
Lygon St Nursery created a native garden to compliment the surrounding landscape at this Keilor landscape design and construction project. Importantly, the garden celebrates the surrounding landscape of the Maribrynong River.
We planted native and indigenous plants to compliment the surrounding landscape context. We included the iconic Australian plants – Brachychiton rupestris and Xanthorrhoea australis as focal points within the garden. Then, Leucadendrons from Protea Flora were planted to provide a striking red contrast and backdrop to the native grasses.
There are two distinct parts to the garden. Firstly, there is a formal pool space with bluestone paving and lines of native plants. Secondly, a more informal pond habitat. The existing pond, was renovated and planted with natives and ferns. As a result, the pond provides a stunning outlook from the main bedroom of the house and habitat for local wildlife.
The many flowering natives look stunning while in flower including the indigenous Epacris impressa. The flowers also provide food for the bees that live in the FlowHive that we installed in the garden.
The native garden and the year round floral displays, soften the built form and hard paving surfaces. The result is a garden with many place to sit and enjoy the views to the surrounding landscape.
