Project: Brunswick West

About This Project

The clients of our Brunswick West landscape design project engaged Lygon St Nursery to design a garden where English style meets Japanese. Importantly, they wanted somewhere for the kids to play and explore.

We chose materials and plants to illustrate the combination of the two styles. We used existing red brick pavers for the front entrance path and granitic gravel to create areas for sitting.

The gravel areas, with rocks and stepping stones, provide the kids with plenty of reasons for adventurous play.  The rocks were sourced locally from a near by construction site.

We planted Japanese maples – Acer palmatum and the contrasting Acer Nugundo to form the tree canopy. The understorey is mixed with formal, clipped Buxus balls and topiary shrubs; and clumping asparagus ferns, liriopes, pieris and scleranthus. As a result, the colours and textures stand out.

Lygon St Nursery engaged a local craftsman, Ronnie to fabricate the custom designed gate.  The intricate design provides a sneak peak into the back and side garden, planted with Bamboo.
